Bodywork by Luke

Queer Friendly Ashiatsu in the heart of Portland

Welcome to Bodywork by Luke! I am so glad you are here. Let me tell you a little about my work and why I love it so much.

With a background as a professional dancer, I relish the opportunity that massage provides me to be in a constant state of flow. Sharing trance imbued rhythms through touch has been and continues to be a deeply healing experience for both myself and my clients. Providing a peaceful sanctuary in the city for queer men and our allies to experience the art of massage is a true joy. In this fast paced, technological world, slowing down and reconnecting with the body is of utmost importance. I whole heartedly believe in the power of this somatic medicine to facilitate profound levels of healing. Every day I witness my clients achieve states of deep relaxation and reconnection with their very most essential parts. The wonderful thing about massage is that the experience itself is highly enjoyable. On the road to healing, it is not necessary to suffer more. So may I encourage you to center your healing and come receive the pleasure of sincerely caring and creative touch.

ABOUT LUKE

Luke Gutgsell, LMT #22316 completed an 800 hour training in massage therapy from East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR in 2016. Prior to this he earned his BFA in dance from the Ohio State University, studied in the interarts program at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, CO, completed a 200 hour Yoga teacher training from Sonic Yoga in NYC, a nursing assistant certification training and psilocybin facilitator licensure training in Portland, OR. Luke’s professional dance experience in NYC provided him with a profound understanding of the body from the inside out. He knows what it is like to sustain serious injuries and live with chronic pain. He also knows that healing is possible and believes whole heartedly in the power of movement and human connection to recuperate vitality and inner peace. Dancing has given him an approach to massage which is particularly lyrical and rhythmic. The deeply grounding touch which he shares through his hands and feet is imbued with sensitivity and emphasizes smooth and fluid transitions between strokes. Luke believes in the power of trance and altered states of consciousness to facilitate soulful restoration. He also believes that the non verbal/somatic nature of massage therapy is equally as effective as talk therapy in its ability to heal psychosomatic trauma. Luke identifies as a queer man and has a special affinity for this population. He enthusiastically centers the care of other queer men but still welcomes all people to come receive massage. He is deeply interested in the burgeoning field of psychedelic assisted therapy and believes that bodywork can be an excellent method of integration. Outside of massage, Luke loves to spend time in nature and immerse himself in music and dance.
